A Get-together Dinner of the e-Buddies

The Blogger’s note:

One of the blogger’s most eloquent, outspoken and humorous e-BUDDIES, Rev Khoon, the “Chief High Priest of the Evolution Temple” and “Commander-in-chief of the Hokkien forces” in a recent Hokkien-Hakka debate, hosted a Get-together Dinner with the theme of "Celebration of the Evolution Day” or “Hari Babi” in Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Saturday, March 12, 2011.

The menu included: taupok stuffed with pork, curry pork ribs, pork belly soup, pork trotters in black vinegar, steamed pork with yam and others ordered at site.

According to him, the purpose is to honour our distant relatives that have given our palate so much pleasure for millennia and also for e-BUDDIES to get together and know one other better as well as to rekindle old acquaintances that have not met for years.

He must have taken the cue from the former Deputy Agriculture Minister Dr. Goh Cheng Teik who has made a famous remark during his tenure in the 1980s that goes: “Pork-eating Can Unite the Chinese”, and the Chief High Priest now applied this “to unite the e-BUDDIES”.

Meanwhile, the most learned e-BUDDY of this group, namely Nutrition-Scientist (holder of 3 doctorates) Dr JB Lim, who is of late obsessed with “Mee-Teh” (or "麵茶" which literally means flour-tea), a Chinese custard he used to eat almost every night as a boy in the 1950s and he declares more interest in the search of this good old-fashioned food than the history of Computers and the Internet as enquired by another e-BUDDY, graced the occasion and came with uncooked ORIGINAL Mee-Teh bought from his hometown Batu Pahat after spending much time and effort in locating the hawker.

The pretty woman-in-pink
Josephine Wong, not to be outdone by Dr JB, brought her home-made Mee-Teh and did all the preparation and cooking of her dessert and JB’s borrowing the boiling water from the restaurant. The host of the night, assuring that he being a professional engineer could not lie, eventually announced Jo’s Mee-Teh tasted better.

.
Druci CK, who is joked to ascend the throne of “Dalai Baru” after Dalai Lama announced his retirement from politics just 2 days ago on March 10, 2011, got the better of the fight with the host in footing the bill and won the collective gratitude from all who attended this very special first Get-together Dinner among the e-BUDDIES.
Full Report written by the Chief High Priest of E-Temple Rev Khoon is reproduced (with permission granted) as follows:

A word of thanks to all who helped to make the Celebration a Great success.
Special thanks to Brother Ck's sister for Nasi Dagang.
And deep gratitude to Jo for spending long hours preparing and stirring Mee Teh.
Thanks to our Honorable Guest of High Honour, the Distinguished Dr (cube). Lim and Sally who brought along Mee Teh from Batu Pahat.
Thanks to Perry who, to our great delight, gate crashed into the dinner at the eleventh hour unannounced. Ha..ha....
Also Steven for making a wonderful surprise entry.
It was a total sold out by the restaurant. Eveytime we asked for an extra portion, the boss said " Mai Sai". All sold out.
Thanks to CHM for introducing restaurant and for warning to book table. And CK for booking it. Or else we will all be sitting on the floor.
We finished clean all dishes. Not even a shadow left. Only ta pau some nasi dagang for khoon's breakfast.
Lastly thanks to Dalai Baru CK for quietly and stealthily settling the Dinner Bill hence toppling the Evolution Temple in generosity.

Cheers.

Rgds,
Rev Khoon.

Excerpts of comments (un-edited) from the attendees after the event:

Dr JB Lim: On behalf of Sally and myself I would like to thank you all for your fantastic company. We were as noisy as the all the other dinners at the other tables even though we wanted to find a quiet place to eat and talk. Thanks for your fellowship.

I would also like to thank Ir. CK Cheong for settling the bill quietly (I wonder how much it was) even though it was supposed to be on the High Priest Rev Khoon who tried to intervene to pay.

Of course the rest of us were only devotees and disciples who were there to open our mouths to eat. Disciples role was only to receive alms even though it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).

The food was simply terrific. No wonder the restaurant was overfilled with noisy dinners like ourselves.

Meantime, many thanks again to Ir. CK Cheong, Ir. SK Tan, and everybody there. Many thanks for your lovely, but noisy company. It was a delightful evening and a superb dinner indeed.

Josephine Wong: To irsktan, a big hand applause for making babi day a reality and to all attendees too.

finally, drjblim childhood reminiscence of mee teh became a reality too, all made possible with prof perry's unselfish revelation of his family secret recipe, and the real secret out again to have it more watery.

well practise make perfect, at least we know what mee teh is now and shall become our signature dessert.

many thanks to irckcheong for his kind generosity footing the bill, though our evolution temple high priest rev khoon was playing host.

we ladies were seated too far apart, caught in a cross conversation amongst the chattery male buddies recalling how each and every buddy met and of course our email threading,,, what a wonderful night.

till we meet again.

Perry the Wise Nite Owl: I must sing my hearteous congratulations to our most Higly Rev. Khoon, High Priest of the Evolution Temple for constantly drumming up weeks before the Inaugural Hari Babi Day Celebration which was finally held on 12 March 2011 at Paromaount Gardens, Petaling Jaya.

How can I be left out in the cold especially on such a rare event? I decided at the last minute to fly all the way from Miri at 4 10 pm arriving at KLIA 630 pm and rushed all the way to the Kong Sai Restaurant: Just in time to shockingly GATE CRASH and made my presence felt so that I can shake hands with The Most Highly respectable Darwinian High Priest of the Evolution Temple and the other ape cum babi devotees who were present.

The meal was sumptuous and we have two types of the mee teh
1. Dr JBLim bought and brought all the way from Batu Pahat
2. Lady Jo painstakingly cooked using a secret recipe which I revealed a few weeks ago! I was utterly surprised she really took all the trouble to try out the recipe! I was at a lost of words...

On this special occasion, I have the rare priviledge to meet some of our ebuddies which I only threaded vigourously for quite sometime via emails but without knowing each other!

Amongst such excellent company, I would have regreted for life if I didn't gate crash in!

To all the other active emailers who somehow couldn't make it, there is always another time.

Special thanks is extended to Brother Drucci for his generosity of feeding the pigs, uh, I mean the bills.

Druci C K Cheong: Well done with the Photo cut and paste. what soft ware are you using for the job? Only if the colour could lead to it. I was initially puzzle who has taken the photo with all of us in it ? and thought my memory is failing... Ha Ha Ha.

Our next Hari Babi should be "Bagus Tea" with all parts of pig, agreed?
