“Phantom of Opera” at Istana Budaya in July 2, 2019

On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, my eldest son Wai Kit treated my wife and I to the musical “The Phantom Of The Opera” at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur from 8.30pm till 11.15pm.

The musical started performing form June 15, 2019 till July 7, 2019. I was told the tickets sold like hot cakes.  Wai Kit booked the tickets online on June 2, 2019 I.e. exactly one month beforehand. Ours are the cheapest and seated at the Grand Circle uppermost level last row corner at RM 354.00 + 4.00 (ticket/charge fee) = RM 358.00.  I also bought a half-mask for RM50.00 as souvenir.

According to brochure, The Phantom Of The Opera tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as “The Phantom” who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House.  Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protege and falls fiercely in love with her.  Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, the Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide,

To me the musical was entertaining enough with songs sung almost nonstop from the beginning to the end of the show, except we couldn’t clearly see the faces of  the actors and actresses from afar.  And it was prohibited to take any photos during the show and hence no photos could be shared..

As we left in a rush after showat 11.15pm, I forgot to take the souvenir put on the floor. Luckily, I realized it after driving for a short distance and quickly returned to the empty theatre and managed to retrieve it.  We reached home exactly at 12.00am.
Souvenir costing RM50

We were seated at the last row H of the Grand Circle area
