I have
registered as early as on July 2, 2017 for attendance at the “7th
International Conference for Holistic Healing in Cancer” organized by
CanSurvive Center Malaysia to be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 9.00am
to 5.00pm at Brickfields Asia College (BAC), VSQ @ PJ City Centre, 11th Floor,
Block 2, 6 Jalan Utara, Section 14, Petaling Jaya. The main attraction to me is the
talk by my most-respected and most-learned e-buddy, the “Great Sifu” Dr. Lim Ju Boo whom I have
the privilege of knowing about 8 years ago.
Of late Dr. Lim
has been suffering from a leg ulcer at the left ankle and this condition seems
to be so worsened that he had to be transferred
from a wound care centre in PJ (after staying there for maggot therapy for almost 2 months)
to KL General Hospital on August 13, 2017.
As it was doubtful that he could temporarily be discharged from the
hospital to attend the Conference, I too made a decision just 2 days before the
Conference not to attend.

Nevertheless,
Dr. Lim rang me up on Friday to affirm his attendance and persuaded me to go. As I had already made an appointment to see
somebody on Saturday morning, I decided to go for the afternoon session of the
Conference starting from 2.00pm, just to show my unwavering support for the Great Sifu Dr. Lim.
And so I went to
the Conference arriving at about 1.30pm and listened to 3 speakers, viz. Dr. Syed
Abdullah Al Hadda on “Advancing Cancer Care in Neurosurgery”, Prof. Dr. Lim Yew
Cheng on “Oxygen Therapy in Malignancies”, and of course Dr. JB Lim’s talk on “Past,
Present and Future Technologies in Cancer Management”. Prof. Dr. Lim Yew Cheng, a Cardiothoracic Surgeon
at Gleneagles Hospital KL., is the younger brother
of Dr. JB Lim.
I find Dr. JB
Lim’s talk as difficult to understand as before (I attended his similar talk twice in the past)
due to my stupidity, but equally light-hearted arousing frequent laughter from
the floor in the course of his speech. As this time around
he was given only 45 minutes (extended another 5 to 10 minutes) to cover such a wide topic (i.e. from the past, present to future of Cancer management
technologies), he had to rush his talk by constantly hurrying the operator of his PowerPoint presentation slides by saying “next,
next, next…”, each time drawing laughter from the audience. Another instance was when he mentioned that
in the future doctors would not be necessary when everyone can carry a
smart-card downloaded with personal medical data.
I quietly left
the Conference immediately after Dr. Lim finished his talk at about 4.50pm as I
felt tired. My only regret was not being
able to meet and greet Dr. Lim before leaving, as there was still a final
speaker being called upon to deliver the last talk of the Conference.
Dr. JB Lim’s topic is “Cancer: The
Past, Present and into the Future”. Synopsis
of his paper is as follows:
“This paper will trace back to the
history of cancer, and the different theories put forward over the millennium.
It will look at the emergence of chemotherapy, and their pharmacodynamics, the
reasons why they failed, and at times succeed and why?
We will also look at the body’s own
immunological system in their relentless attack against malignant cancer cells
constantly lurking in the body, and how scientists attempt to mimic their
mechanisms in their formulation of new therapeutic approaches.
We will then look at new
developments in cellular chemistry, molecular biology, protein expressions,
proteomics, molecular signaling, nanotechnology, and discoveries in
epigenetics, and how present-day scientists look at these discoveries to
formulate new drugs and delivery systems in their never-ending battle against
these diseases. Will they succeed someday with new discoveries when cancer
already defiles the most brilliant scientific brains? We will answer this
question in this paper.
The paper will also look at some
other current alternative therapeutic modalities and other newer unorthodox
tactics unfathomed by Science in our struggle with this problematic disease
which has challenged mankind since time immemorial.”
