My Youngest Son Wai Kei's Convocation 2018

On Saturday, 18th August, 2018 morning, Soh Ai and I attended our youngest son Wai Kei’s 31st Convocation Ceremony of UCSI University at its Kuala Lumpur campus, Taman Connaught, Cheras, K.L.

Wai Kei first pursue a course leading to Diploma in Management in USCI University in April, 2013 and continued his Bachelor’s Degree of Arts (Hon) in Business Management from 2015/2016.  He managed to graduate with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree now in August, 2018.

It is noted that UCSI University ranked as Malaysia’s best private university in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings 2019, placing it in the top 2% of all universities in the world.  UCSI ranked 481 and is the only Malaysian private universities in the top 500.

We woke up as early as at 5.00am that morning and left home at 6.00am as Wai Kei wanted to go early to register for the Convocation at 7.00am. We reached the campus barely half an hour later as there was no traffic jam.

We went to Dewan Tan Sri Ahmad Razali, Level 5, Block C at about 8.00am and seated at the middle row.

The ceremony started at 9.30am with the following itinerary:

9.30 am  Ceremonial Procession and National Anthem
9.40 am  Convocation Declared by the Chancellor, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad
9.42 am  Video presentation
9.45 am Opening Address by the Vice-Chancellor and President Senior Professor Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff
9.55 am  Presentation of Chancellor’s Gold Medal Award / Speech by the Award Recipient
10.05 am  Presentation of First Cohort of Graduands
10.40 am  Musical Performance by the Institute of Music
10.50 am Presentation of Degree and Diploma Awards

(It was a long process as there were nearly a thousand of graduands! Wai Kei went on stage to receive his degree scroll at about 11.05am)

11.50 am  Presentation of the Valedictorian / Speech by him
12.00 pm Proclamation of Graduates as Memebers of the UCSI University Alumni by the Vice-Chancellor
12.15 pm  National Anthem and Ceremonial Recession
12.30 pm  Convocation Morning Session ends

(There was an Afternoon Session on August 18, 2018 from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm, and another Morning Session on Sunday, August 19, 2018.)

After the ceremony was ended, we proceeded to adjacent Ground Floor of Block G for studio photo-taking. We chose FotoRex’s graduation portrait package of RM330.00 (2 poses of individual/family portraits) providing 2 copies 11R (11”x14”) with Canvas & Frame + 6 copies of 4”x5” photos.

It was very crowded and we had to wait for about 45 minutes to have the photos taken.  Those photos can only be collected from their Pudu office on October 2, 2018.

After that, we snapped some photos with Wai Kei outside Block G.  He then joined his friends (and later returned home on his own) while Soh Ai and I took noodle lunch at a coffee shop before returning home at about 2.30pm.
