On Sunday, October 16, 2022, I joined Saw Cheng Ngee & Company again to hike Ah Pek Hill (阿伯山) or Bukit Putih using the Taman Wangsa Cheras trail after my visit last Sunday.
Earlier I have contacted another ex-comrade of GBBM PJ (青团运八打灵支会) Onn Boon Chai (温文才) to join us and he readily agreed to come along.
I reached Taman Wangsa Cheras at 9.15am and was pleasantly surprised by the kind gesture of Simon Kuah who brought me a fairly long hiking bamboo stick. The wooden stick removed from a broom (in lieu of a walking clutch I used last Sunday) was said to be ineffective for hiking.
We started our hiking at 9.25am when Onn informed us that he had come early and started at 8.30am and waited for us at Station 1. Onn told me that he last hiked Ah Pek Hill 2 year ago.
The company of hiking today included: Saw Cheng Ngee, Simon Kuah, Onn Boon Chai, Ng KM and his wife. BT Ng, Victor, Bruce Lee and I.
This time around I found a certain stretch of the hike very tough including one abandoned track with fallen tree trunks and bushy. I had to bend my body to get across the trail.
This time we visited the San Sui Station (山水站 or Mountain Water Station) which is quite well decorated with a mini kopitiam, a toilet, artistic wall painting, a water wheel, non-stop flowing water tap and etc.
From there we proceeded to Station 3A and reached there at 11.25am. Picnic and chit-chat till 1.45pm. For this trip, I contributed 10 small bags of Sabah Tenom coffee and kopi-O which I bought from Sabah last month and a packet of small Mandarin oranges for our companions.
We hiked down at 1.45pm and returned to the starting point at 2.15pm. I returned home at 2.15pm.
It was another enjoyable hike with a few new acquaintances today. All of us except KM’s wife are in the sixties (I am probably the oldest) and who says “age is just a number”?
