A glimpse of the conference room at 5.00pm |
It was indeed an evening of awakening towards the awareness of our body and health! That is my feeling after attending my most learned e-buddy ‘Great Sifu’ Dr Lim Ju Boo’s evening talk on the subject of “The Meaning & Measurement of Health” organized by Malaysian Invention & Design Society (MINDS) (my previous post http://taionn.blogspot.com/2012/10/prelude-to-dr-jb-lims-upcoming-health.html also has reference) at Bilik Tiara Intan, Hotel Singgahsana, Petaling Jaya on Wednesday, 24th October, 2012.
.
I left home early at 4.30pm with my friend, retired civil engineer and trekking buddy, Yong Yew Khoon in my car for fear of traffic jam. But the traffic was so smooth that we took only half an hour to reach Hotel Singgahsana at 5.00pm, exactly one hour earlier than the scheduled commencement of the talk at 6.00pm.

Dr JB Lim checking on his slides before the talk began |
At about 5.40pm only saw guests coming in and I was delighted to greet Dr JB Lim and another e-buddy Ir Tan Seng Khoon (nicknamed 'the High Priest of Evolution Temple') as they arrived at the same time at the lobby.
.
Light refreshment comprising fried noodle, fried rice and hot drinks were served at 6.00pm. My two other invited guests Mr & Mrs K.C. Low arrived at that time. I also met for the first time another e-buddy Cheaw Hon Ming and we chatted for a short while.

Tan Sri Augustine Ong delivering the welcoming speech |
The talk began at 6.30pm with a welcoming speech by MINDS President Academician Tan Sri Emeritus Prof Datuk Dr Augustine SH Ong.
Dr Lim took over the stage at about 6.40pm and talked non-stop for more than 2 hours. He told the audiences from the outset that he is a compulsive speaker and he sure is one. He went on talking without sipping any water throughout the session, even listeners like myself needed to drink to quench our thirst several times.

Dr JB Lim stressing a point with spectacular body language |
My impression of Dr Lim’s talk can be summarized by 8 Chinese words: "如数家珍 (rú shǔ jiā zhēn), 滔滔不绝 (tāo tāo bù jué)". The first four words literally mean “as if enumerating one's family valuables” or speaking on subjects with great familiarity, while the last four words literally mean "like water incessantly flowing" or being eloquent or articulate.
I purposely sat at the front row so as to facilitate my snapshot taking of Dr Lim in action and his slides (which had increased from an initial 15 to 64). Regrettably, I had played with and messed up the setting of my Panasonic Lumix digital camera in the beginning of the talk so much so the photos taken turned out to be not clear or sharp, partly also because I didn’t use flashlight at all so as not to unduly disturb or distract Dr Lim. I must therefore apologize for the poor quality of photos posted here.
.
Below are some of the slides presented by Dr Lim during the talk which are self-explanatory.
Three short video clips each lasting only 2 to 3 minutes are uploaded below to impress readers on Dr Lim’s charismatic performance as an orator and listen to his voice.

The organizer presenting a token of appreciation to the speaker |
The talk finished at about 8.30pm with a presentation of token of appreciation to Dr Lim by the organizer. This was followed by Questions & Answers time until about 9.15pm.
My conclusion is that I have learned a great deal about health care from the talk and I believe everyone of the audiences felt the same way. We are indeed indebted to the 'Great Sifu" for sharing his wonderful knowledge and wisdom.

APPENDIX: Report & Photos by Ir Tan Seng Khoon
The blogger's note: Ir Tan Seng Khoon was the first person to stand up, give his comments and ask 2 questions during the Q&A time of the above Health Talk. It is understood that he is an old buddy of Dr JB Lim since the formation period of The Astronomical Society of Malaysia of which Dr Lim and he were the First President and Secretary respectively. It should also be noted that the reference of Dr Lim as the “Great Sifu” is accredited to Ir Tan during exchanges of emails among the e-buddies a few years back.
Ir Tan's comment.
In our lives today, it is not possible to have good health because of the pollution of the environment.
The air that we breath is toxic with vehicle fumes and factories.
The meat that we eat for chicken and pork has got growth hormones.
The fish are tainted with preservative like formalin and formaldehyde.
The vegetables are laced with herbicides and insecticides. etc etc.
Dr Lim's comment: The growth hormones in meat are destroyed by intense heat, provided hormone dosage is not heavy. The pesticides of vegetable are removed by washing it in warm water.
Question 1: For people who are overweight, how best to lose weight and stay healthy?
Dr. Lim advised to cut down on food intake and have plenty of exercise. Food intake should be reduced by 25% every month and increased by more fruit comsumption.
Question 2: Is Alkali water @ Kangen water good for health?
Dr. Lim mentioned an experiment made with a dog, whereby mild acid was gradually injected into the dog's blood stream to see its reaction. Dr. Lim reported that the dog's body immediately neutralizes the acid content in the blood and measured blood pH remained always at 7.4. Therefore Kagen water does nothing to the human body.
