An Impromptu Visit To Broga Sak Dato Temple & etc. on April 5, 2024

On Friday, April 5, 2024, I suggested to my walking buddies to patronize Lubiantan ABC Cafe, off Jalan Bukit, Bandar Kajang (路边叹冰城小食) for its Penang street food and signature ABC (ais kacang). They (namely Tang Chee Leong / Lim Poh Suan / Goh Boon Keong / Tiu Sook Chin) readily agreed and we even recruited Yap Kuang Boon and his wife Tan Sok Mooi.
At 9.40 am, Ah Keong and Sook Chin came to pick Soh Ai and I from our house, while Ah Leong and Poh Suan went to fetch Yap & his wife. 8 of us went in 2 cars to Bandar Kajang.
At Lubiantan ABC Cafe, Soh Ai and I shared one big bowl of Penang Prawn Noodle (RM10.00), one small bowl of Thai Laksa (RM8.50), 1 pc. Signature ABC ais kacang (RM6.00) and Asamboi lime juice (RM4.00). My buddies also ordered the same food and drinks. I bought 2 pcs of Pandan kaya puff (RM2.70/each) and my total expenditure was RM37.90.
The food and ais kacang were both tasty and nice. Really worth the trip for the first time! This cafe was recommended by Mrs. Yap’s friend.
After breakfast, we discussed about where to go next. Suggestion of the nearby SP Setia Shopping Mall or Putrajaya IOI City Mall was raised. Finally we decided to go to Broga, Lenggeng, Seremban District, Negeri Sembilan.
I wasn’t prepared to go to Broga at all and I was wearing a pair of sandals and short pants. Hence I called this an impromptu visit!
We reached Broga at about 12.20pm. In view of her leg’s pain, Mrs. Yap didn’t join us to hike up to Broga Sak Dato (aka Sak Nato) Temple (武来岸玉封石哪督庙). All our friends wore shoes except Soh Ai and me. What a shame!
The Broga Sak Dato Temple with 140 years of history features at the top of the hill the tallest Sun Wukong or Monkey King Statue (孙悟空塑像) in the Malaysian Book of Records, completed in May 2010.
For the record, this is my 2nd time visit to this place. My first visit was in August 20, 2012 (refer to: https://taionn.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-one-day-trip-to-titi-broga-negeri.html )
The Sun Wukong Statue is 16.685m tall and is quite a majestic sight!
We were lucky as the weather was very fine and not really hot as we hiked. However, I sweated profusely and my yellow T-shirt was almost totally wet after the hike and walk.
Other attractions were the suspension bridge which I noticed that the lookalike trussed diagonal members are actually ribbons resembling part of the bridge structures, beautiful landscaped gardens including statues of the Chinese zodiacal animals, stone sculptures of Chinese folklore characters. giant replicas of local fruits and fish ponds. I don’t remember seeing all those things when I last visited 12 years ago.
We left Sak Dato Temple at about 1.45pm and proceeded to Restoran Ikan Bakar Yap (阿叶泰式烧鱼) for lunch on the suggestion of Ah Keong/Sook Chin. The Thai style lemon steamed fish is said to be very delicious.
Our lunch included lemon steamed tilapia fish (RM48.00), 8 pcs of chicken wings (RM40.00), vege (RM10.00), fried taufu (RM8.00), boneless chicken feet (玻璃鸡脚, RM20.00), 4 plates of rice (RM6.00) plus Chinese tea (RM8.00). The total cost amounted to RM140.00 or RM17.50/each, very reasonable. The food was delicious indeed and no wonder this restaurant is quite popular!
After lunch and on the way out of Broga, we stopped by a road-side stall called “好朋友椰沙冰” for its famed coconut shake with ice-cream (RM7.00). The drink was very soothing and nice as everyone of us was very thirsty.
We returned home at about 5.30pm and that concluded an enjoyable outing!
