I have made a prior appointment with cousin brother Pan Mok Weng
before CNY to meet him at Sunway Velocity Mall, KL on the 6th day of
CNY, 21/02/2018, so as to collect the 2 bottles of Liuwei Dihuang teapills (六味地黄丸) he purchased for me from
Malaysian Chinese Medical Association (MCXMA or 马来西亚中医总会). A bottle of 1,000 pills
now costs RM 120 (used to be RM 80 earlier).
This Chinese patent medicine is said to be useful as anti-oxidant,
anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, for prostate enlargement, geriatric dementia,
and type II diabetes, together with the use of “gui pi tang” to improve white
blood cell count caused by chemotherapy, chronic infection of the sinus area. I
intended to buy one bottle for Wai Yu to bring back to Taiwan for consumption.
It so happened that my youngest sister Winnie wanted to meet us
before Wai Yu and Jia-Mei return to Taiwan this coming Saturday early
morning. So I invited her to join us for
lunch at Sunway Velocity Mall.
On 21/02/2018, Wai Yu, Jia-Mei and I left home at 10.30am to take a
MRT shuttle bus to Bukit Dukung MRT station.
We boarded a train at 11.10am from Bukit Dukung to reach AEON Maluri
station at 11.50am. Sunway Velocity Mall
is about 5 minutes’ walk distance from the MRT station.
We met up with Winnie at about 12.15pm and Pan 12.30pm and decided
to take our lunch at Esquire Kitchen (大人餐厅) which served set meal (新年套餐 "吉星高照") in conjunction with
CNY.
Winnie played host to us and ordered Yee Sang or Prosperity Toss
Salad (RM 65) in addition to the set meal of 4 dishes plus dumplings (RM 188
excluding rice and tea). The bill came
close to RM 300. She also gave away
ang-pows (red packets) to all my 4 children and Jia-Mei.
My youngest brother Patrick came for a short while to see us at the
restaurant after we finished our lunch (as he had lunch appointment with his
friends in the same mall at the same time) and had a group photo together with
us.
After lunch, we walked to the atrium area at the ground floor which
was beautifully decorated in line with the festive mood with a spectacular
exhibition of hundred Chinese surnames (百家姓). I was particularly
interested in taking photos with my surname of Lau (which is also spelt as Liu
/ Liew / Lew).
Later, we visited the “Commune” at Level 5, a place showcasing the
development of creativity and cultures (文创区). At one coffee-selling
stall run by Taiwanese, Pan, Winnie, Wai Yu and Jia-Mei bought the manually
brewed coffee while I just tried a few sips.
We bade farewell to one another at about 3.15pm. Three of us returned to Bandar Sg. Long by
MRT train and shuttle bus and reached home at about 4.30pm.
