On Thursday morning, 18/4/2024, my wife and I dated our walking buddies Tang Chee Leong, Lim Poh Suan, Goh Boon Keong and Tiu Sok Chin for breakfast at Restoran Sky 45, Section 11 BSL.
During our chit-chat during breakfast, we talked about places to visit such as Ulu Yam (for lor mee 乌鲁音卤面), Jenjarom/Kuala Langat, Klang & etc. We didn’t mention about going anywhere immediately.
Nevertheless, as I was driving home with my wife and suddenly they rang us up and asked if we wanted to go to Ulu Yam shortly.
So it was another spontaneous half-day trip decided at the last minute!
At 12.00pm, Ah Keong and Sook Chin came to our house to fetch Soh Ai and I, while Ah Leong and Poh Suan separately drove in their car.
We arrived at Ulu Yam Lama at about 1.30pm and patronized Restoran Swee Yen ( 瑞园茶餐室) at Jalan Besar which Leong & Keong Co. visited before.
The food we savored included: lor mee RM24), spring rolls (春卷 RM17),sweet potato leaves (番薯叶 RM20),honey lemon drink (蜜糖柠檬水 1 jug RM10). Total cost came to RM142.00 or RM47 per couple.
I find the Ulu Yum lor mee with vinegar super yummy, living up to its reputation indeed.
I also bought from the same restaurant a bottle of toddy (椰花酒 RM10), hand-made rice noodles (手工米粉 RM9.50), pumpkin crackers (金瓜饼 RM14) and cratoxylum cochinchinense or yellow cow wood (黄牛木 RM18).

After lunch at 2.50pm, we visited World of Phalaenopsis, an orchid farm at Jalan Batang Kali, Ulu Yam Baru. The flower-filled environment and waterlily pond were very scenic.

After leaving Ulu Yam, we proceeded to Serendah where we visited Taman Rekreasi Perigi Tujuh (or Seven Wells Recreational Park) at Kampung Datuk Harun, Serendah. This was the second time I visited this place.
The site is a small dam with seven sink holes or spillways, forming an interesting sight of 7 holes (whirlpools) on the surface of the water. The water from the upstream lake would be drained through those whirlpools like plug holes in a bath to a river on the other side of a stone bridge. It is understood to be built about 100 years ago by the British administration after WWII as a flood mitigation structure. It was drizzling when we arrived but not for long, and there wasn’t any visitor other than 6 of us!

At 4.35pm, we went to Jalan Macau, Kg. Datuk Harun, Serendah for some refreshments. But to our disappointment, Kedai Kopi Yee Kee (义记茶室) that serves the renowned herbal tea egg (鸡蛋茶) was closed for business then.
We shopped at the next door “Taste of Bentong” for local products where I bought: concentrated honey lemon 1kg (RM25), honey candy (RM18), pork taufu pok (RM21), cha siew pau (4’s RM8.50) and mulled rice wine or yellow wine (黄酒 RM25).

After that, we walked to the nearby Restoran M23 situated at the ground floor of Hokkien Hoay Kuan, Serendah (双文丹福建会馆) for early dinner.
The dishes we had were: Nyonya-style steamed tilapia (娘惹蒸非洲鱼 RM55), signature taufu (招牌豆腐 RM15), bitter gourd scrambled eggs (苦瓜炒蛋 RM13),garlic chives (青龙菜 RM15), Chinese tea (1 pot RM5) and rice (3 plates RM6). Total cost was RM109.
After dinner at 6.00pm, we drove home amid heavy rain and traffic jam in KL and finally returned home at 8.30pm.
In conclusion, it was an enjoyable trip with good company of friends!
